PowerTechs · Tesla Texas roles, deconstructed

Tesla

These are two of Tesla’s open Texas postings, unedited. Each requirement splits into two kinds: what a screen can verify — a degree, a number of years, a tool — and what the posting asks for but no screen checks. On both roles below, the second kind is written into the requirements themselves — there’s just nothing that measures it. And it runs from the paint line to the megaproject.

Role 1 — the frontline

Process Technician, Cybertruck Paint (Austin). The screen checks a degree, two years, and Office. The job is composure, attention, and troubleshooting a line that’s down.

What You’ll Bring: — Two or more years of experience in a production manufacturing environment. — Associate Degree in Science, or equivalent experience. — Strong verbal and written communication skills for understanding, recording, and creating procedures or shift pass-downs. — Ability to read and interpret instructions accurately. — Sufficient computer skills with proficiency in Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Ignition. — Solid math skills and the capacity to read and use measuring equipment. — Flexibility to work off-shifts and weekends as needed.

Role 2 — the leadership extreme

Site Construction Manager, Advanced Manufacturing (Brookshire). Almost every requirement is a durable skill. The one thing the screen can verify is a number of years.

As Site Manager in the Greater Houston Area, you will own overall construction site execution from groundbreaking through manufacturing readiness for one of the largest and most ambitious advanced manufacturing greenfield builds Tesla has undertaken. You will build and lead a construction organization, set priorities, remove noise, and keep Project Managers, Superintendents, and cross-functional partners locked on the critical path to factory ramp. This role demands a proven construction leader who has stood up mega-projects before, communicates with precision at the executive level, and leads from the field with extreme ownership. What You’ll Bring: — 10+ years of experience leading major capital construction programs; manufacturing, semiconductor, solar, battery experience considered an asset. — Proven track record building and leading large construction organizations (Construction Managers, Superintendents, and support functions) on complex, fast-paced sites. — Demonstrated experience presenting schedule, cost, and site performance to C-suite / senior executive stakeholders with precision and credibility. — Deep expertise in project controls, integrated scheduling, contractor management, and recovery planning on large multi-discipline programs. — Exceptional leader and communicator who sets priorities clearly, removes ambiguity, and keeps large teams focused under pressure. — Extreme ownership, high judgment, and relentless execution: you run the construction site knowing manufacturing ramp depends on every decision.

Two layers, one of them invisible to the screen

Every role has a technical layer — degrees, years, tools. A screen catches it cleanly, because it’s pass/fail. The paint tech’s Associate degree either exists or it doesn’t; the site manager’s ten years are on the résumé or they’re not.

Every role also has a durable layer — composure under pressure, communication, judgment, ownership. Both postings name it directly, in the requirements, right next to the years. But nothing on the screen measures it. A résumé can claim “extreme ownership” and “strong communication”; it can’t demonstrate them.

These two roles sit at opposite ends of the org — an hourly paint-line technician and a megaproject leader — and the screen treats them the same way: it verifies the credential and takes the durable layer on faith. The same gap runs through every role in between.

The durable layer is already in the requirements — both postings name it. What a screen can’t do is measure it, so it stays taken on faith until the work reveals it, weeks in. On a Cybertruck paint line that shows up as fault-recovery time; on a greenfield build, as the critical path. Reading that layer up front means it shows on the screen — not twelve weeks into the job.

That second layer decides who ramps fast on the line and who holds the megaproject together under pressure. Transitioning service members arrive with it already built — and it’s exactly what PowerTechs measures, up front.
