Round Rock, TX Senior / Level III ✓ Veteran-friendly employer
Apply » 2 minutes · no résumé needed to start

This is a job at TECO Westinghouse. PowerTechs runs the skills assessment and refers the strongest candidates to their hiring team.

Heads up: you can create your profile on your phone, but the skills assessment needs a laptop or desktop. Start now, finish step 2 when you're at a computer.

About the role

You'll join TECO Westinghouse's Electro-Mechanical Assembly team as a senior (Level III) assembler, building electrical components and circuits from specifications, assembly drawings, outline drawings, and bills of materials. TECO Westinghouse actively hires transitioning service members and veterans into this team.

This is a senior seat. Beyond precision assembly, you'll run electrical tests and quality inspections, work independently with minimal supervision, and mentor less experienced members of the team. It's built for someone leaving service with strong technical aptitude and a serious commitment to safety and quality.

What you'll do

  • Assemble electrical components and circuits from specifications, assembly drawings, outline drawings, and bills of materials.
  • Perform electrical testing, quality inspections, precision measurements, and the documentation that goes with them.
  • Operate manufacturing equipment and overhead cranes safely.
  • Read and interpret complex manufacturing drawings and process specifications.
  • Follow ESD processes and controls, and hold the line on safety and quality.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision — and mentor and guide less experienced team members.

Hard gate
Hands-on electro-mechanical or manufacturing experience

This is a Level III role. It's for service members who have already worked in a hands-on technical trade — electrical, mechanical, machining, assembly, or a related manufacturing or maintenance MOS/rate. TECO Westinghouse treats this as mandatory, not a nice-to-have.

How this works

01 Create your PowerTechs profile Name, service branch, and confirmation you can get to Round Rock. No résumé, no cover letter. 2 minutes · phone or computer
02 Run Operation Compass A game-based skills assessment set in a scenario you'll recognize. You make calls under time pressure; the system reads how you reason, communicate, and coordinate. ~15 minutes · laptop or desktop required
03 We match your profile against this role Your skill profile plus your hands-on technical background gets scored against what TECO Westinghouse needs on the floor. Strong matches get referred. PowerTechs decides who is referred
04 Interview with TECO Westinghouse You talk to the hiring team with your skill profile already in front of them — so the conversation starts at what you can do, not at translating your MOS. Hiring decision is TECO Westinghouse's

The assessment

Operation Compass

PowerTechs isn't a résumé screen. Before anyone at TECO Westinghouse sees your name, you run a short mission set on a forward operating base — a scenario you already know how to read. An air-defense site loses its data link to AWACS. You work the problem with your squad, under a clock, making the same kind of calls you've made for real.

Every decision feeds a skill profile. It's how we show an employer what a hands-on technician can actually do, without asking you to translate your service record into civilian résumé language.

Operation Compass mission start: an overhead view of a forward operating base with aircraft, helicopters, hangars and fuel storage.
The mission starts on the ground you know. No abstract puzzles and no personality quiz — a working base, a squad, and a data link to AWACS that went dark at 0600.
A decision point in Operation Compass with four response options, a countdown timer, and a live skill profile panel showing scores for analytical reasoning, communication, team coordination, problem-solving, adaptive learning and composure.
Your skill profile builds as you play. Eight decisions, roughly fifteen minutes. What you choose — and how you handle a fix that created a new problem — is what TECO Westinghouse ends up seeing.

What the assessment maps to on this job

The six skills Operation Compass measures aren't generic soft skills. Here's what each one predicts on TECO Westinghouse's floor.

Measured in the missionUsed in this role
Analytical ReasoningReading a complex assembly drawing and catching the error before it reaches test.
Clear CommunicationDocumenting inspections and mentoring a newer assembler so the standard holds.
Team CoordinationMoving work through machining, winding, assembly and test without dropping a handoff.
Resourceful Problem-SolvingA part that doesn't seat right, worked out against the spec rather than forced.
Adaptive LearningNew equipment, new drawings, new ESD and quality procedures — continuously.
Composure Under PressurePrecision work on a schedule, around cranes and live electrical test.
TECO Westinghouse fills this team in waves, and the assessment step means the strongest profiles surface first. Applying early costs you nothing and puts you at the front of the next round.

Questions people ask first

Do I need a résumé?

No. Your profile plus the assessment is the application. You can add a résumé later, but nothing is blocked without one.

How long does the assessment take, and can I do it on my phone?

About fifteen minutes, and it needs a laptop or desktop — the mission environment doesn't run properly on a phone. You can create your profile from your phone now and run the assessment on a computer.

Is a job guaranteed at the end?

No, and anyone telling you otherwise is selling something. PowerTechs refers strong matches; the interview and the hiring decision are TECO Westinghouse's. What this route does is get you in front of them with your skills already shown, instead of a résumé in a stack.

I'm not sure my MOS counts as 'electro-mechanical.' Should I apply?

If you've done hands-on technical work — electrical, mechanical, machining, maintenance, assembly — run the assessment. It surfaces the durable skills the job needs even when your job title doesn't obviously match. That's the whole point of it.

I'm still a few months from separating. Should I apply now?

Yes. Create your profile and run the assessment now — your skill profile doesn't expire, and we'll line the timing up with your separation date.

What does PowerTechs decide, and what does TECO Westinghouse decide?

PowerTechs runs the assessment and decides who gets referred to TECO Westinghouse's hiring team. TECO Westinghouse runs the interview and makes the hiring decision. Your skill profile goes with the referral.

Continue your career with a team that values your military experience.
