Trane is seeking transitioning veterans with foundational skills in electrical, electronics, and/or information technology to start a career as a Building Automation Controls Technician - SkillBridge Intern. In this exciting role in our Contracting Division, you will be learning commissioning, programming, setting up graphics, communications links, end-to-end testing, troubleshooting, and servicing on assigned projects. During this internship, you will not only learn in the field from our Area Contracting Managers and Team Leaders, but you will also earn two separate industry certifications in building automation and controls. It is expected that upon completion of this SkillBridge internship, you will be hired as a full-time Controls Technician. In this position, you will set up the Building Automation Systems on diverse job sites in and around the area. You will commission and start-up BAS systems and document point-to-point verification, sequence of operations validation, and job close-out requirements. Coordinates with team leader and customer to precisely understand requirements for all on-site installation and repairs by forecasting issues, gathering materials, and synchronizing on-site work. Keeps current on Trane products concerning installation, operation, maintenance, service, and repair of direct digital control systems. Continually enforces safety to the highest standards and maintains security and accountability of company-issued and procured assets by recording use, wear, and conditions.

The on-the-job training schedule includes, but is not limited to activities pertaining to HVAC Service for the Commercial HVAC Americas Service Department. Trane Commercial HVAC Service Technician Interns work directly with an Area Service Manager, Team Leader or Senior HVAC Technician at customer sites in and around the local area performing both scheduled and unscheduled preventative maintenance, inspections, site surveys, and service requests for a variety of commercial and industrial equipment. Training curriculum includes the following components as well as other learnings as opportunities present themselves in the scope of commercial HVAC service work. Introduction to Craft Skills (Basic safety, hand tools, power tools, construction drawings, communication skills, customer service skills and material handling). Introduction to HVAC Theories (Trade mathematics, introduction to heating/cooling/air distribution, and basic piping practices). Refrigeration and Basic Components. Troubleshooting Techniques. HVAC Electrical Safety and Troubleshooting. Auxiliary Systems. Chilled Water System Service.

Two layers, one of them invisible to the screen

Every role has a technical layer — the craft skills your program is built to teach. A screen catches it, and where it’s missing you train it. That half works.
